BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. According to the signed contracts for the right use the premium for construction of PV farms in North Macedonia, so far total of 33 MW installed capacity has been put into operation, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy of North Macedonia Razmena Cekic-Durovik said in an exclusive interview with Trend.

“In the future there will be also public call issued by the Ministry of Economy for the right to use the premium for electricity produced from PV farms constructed on private land. Energy Development Strategy envisages construction of 2100MW of combined PV and Wind farms in the country,” she added.

North Macedonia’s Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi earlier said that solar power projects with construction permits reached a record of over 400 MW in total. He noted that there will probably be surplus electricity from renewable sources during the period from May to October.

North Macedonia scheduled an increase in value-added tax on electricity to 18 percent from 10 percent for July 1, but Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi said he doesn’t expect prices to actually rise, pointing to developments in the market. He hinted that the government could delay the increase if necessary and added that the calculation method would be adjusted.

Moreover, North Macedonia will most likely have renewable electricity surpluses from May to October as production should exceed demand during some hours and days, according to the minister.
