BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. A tender for Black Sea electricity project will be announced this year, Javid Abdullayev, Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, told Trend in an exclusive interview.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, and Romania signed an agreement in Bucharest on December 17, 2022 to build an underwater electric cable under the Black Sea. The project could become a new power source for the European Union. The 1,100-kilometer cable from Azerbaijan to Romania will provide Azerbaijani energy for the rest of the continent. The project could be completed within three to four years.

"The second meeting of the quadrilateral steering committee on the project has already taken place. The secretariat of this committee is the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy. Work on the project is going very fast, it is planned to attract a consulting company. The preparation of the terms of reference is at the final stage. After that, a consulting company will be involved. The tender is planned to be announced during this year," he explained.
