BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 27. Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR, has reported a remarkable 36.8 percent increase in oil processing during the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year, Trend reports.
Throughout this reporting period, SOCAR's processing complex in Azerbaijan successfully processed approximately 1.6 million tons of oil and around 857 million cubic meters of natural gas.
Additionally, 610,000 tons of oil, petrochemical, and gas chemical products produced at SOCAR's facilities in Azerbaijan were exported during the quarter. This figure represents a significant growth of 51.2 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
In terms of domestic gas consumption, the country utilized 2.5 billion cubic meters during the reporting period.
SOCAR carries out its oil processing operations at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery, which is presently undergoing a modernization and reconstruction project. The refinery currently boasts an impressive product range, including liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel, industrial fuel oil, household fuel oil, petroleum coke, bitumen, lubricants, as well as liquefied gas fractions, naphtha, and dry gas. Notably, up to 10 percent of all products are exported.
Starting from the second quarter of 2023, the refinery commenced production of Euro-5 standard diesel fuel. Furthermore, the production of Euro-5 standard gasoline is planned to commence from the first quarter of 2024.
In parallel, the Gas Processing Plant handles natural gas, gas condensate, a wide range of light hydrocarbons, and produces purified natural gas, gasoline, technical butane, technical propane-butane mixture, and heavy condensate.
