Georgia Preparing for Import of Azerbaijani Gas from Shah Deniz Field - Georgian Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / Over the nearest 7-10 days Georgia will begin receiving Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field. The Georgian Energy Minister, Nika Gilauri, informed Trend correspondent in Tbilisi that in this period it is planned to test the second well and afterward set up natural gas delivery to Georgia.

"In the initial stage Georgia will receive 1 million cu m of natural a day while later the volume of supplies will be increased," he noted.

In accordance with the existing agreement, in 2007 Georgia will receive 250mln cu m of natural gas from the Shha Deniz. Additionally, Georgia will receive the volume that Turkey allocated out of its share in the Shah Deniz project.

At the present time Georgia receives 1.3mln cu m of Azerbaijani gas a day. The country will continue receiving this volume by April 1, while later the new quotas will be applied.
