Money transfers to Georgia up in January 2021

Georgia received $149.8 million from abroad in January 2021, which is 19.2 percent more than the amount in January 2020, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia.

Russia ($23.18 million), Italy ($27.32 million) and the United States ($18.07 million) was the largest remittance senders in January 2021.

Overall, the vast majority (93.2 percent) of all money transfers from abroad came from 16 countries.

After Russia, Italy and, the United States other countries regularly sending money transfers to Georgia in December 2020 included Greece - $18.62 million, Israel – $13.16 million, Ukraine – $6.43 million, Turkey – $7.16 million,Germany – $6.06 million, Azerbaijan – $5.32 million, Spain – $3.51 million, France – $2.39 million, Poland – $1.95 million, United Kingdom – $1.37 million, Kazakhstan – $2.20 million, Canada – $1.46 million, Ireland - $1.35 million.

Last month, remittances leaving Georgia totaled $17.2 million, which is 6.7 percent less as compared to January 2020 ($18.5 million).
