Iran sees surge in inflation rate

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23. The monthly inflation rate in Iran increased by 39.3 percent, in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through May 21, 2022), compared to the same month last Iranian year, Trend reports via the statistics of the Statistical Center of Iran.

The statistics show that families spent an average of 39.3 percent more on some products and services in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year compared to the same month last Iranian year.

The monthly inflation on food, soft drinks, and tobacco products in Iran was 49.4 percent in the second month, while in the non-food and services sector was 34 percent, according to the statistics.

Within the 2nd month, the monthly inflation rate in Iranian cities was 39.2 percent. This is 4 percent more than in the same month last Iranian year.

Meanwhile, in villages in Iran, the monthly inflation rate was 40.1 percent for the second month. This is an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.

According to the statistics, the monthly inflation rate in Iran for the 2nd month increased by 0.2 percent, compared to the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2022).

Whereas, the annual inflation rate in the country (May 21, 2021 through May 21, 2022) was 38.7 percent. This is a decrease of 0.5 percent compared to the previous period (May 20, 2020, through May 20, 2021).

At the end of the 2nd month of the current Iranian year, the annual inflation rate was 38.3 percent in Iranian cities, while - 40.8 percent in villages. This shows a decrease of 0.4 percent in cities and 0.8 percent in villages, compared to the previous period.
