ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 16. The total volume of deposits of the population in banks of Turkmenistan as of August 1 of this year amounted to 3.09 billion Turkmen manat ($880 million), Trend reports.
The Central Bank of Turkmenistan said these figures are 1.9 percent less than on the same date last year (3.15 billion Turkmen manat, or $900 million).
Of the total amount, the deposits of the population in state-owned commercial banks amounted to 1.93 billion Turkmen manat ($550 million), which is 3.5 percent less than on August 1 last year (2 billion Turkmen manat, or $570 million).
At the same time, the share of deposits of the population in joint-stock commercial banks accounted for 1.15 billion Turkmen manat ($330 million), which did not change in comparison with the same date in 2022.
Furthermore, deposits of the Turkmen population in branches of foreign banks amounted to 730 million Turkmen manat ($208.3 million), which is 92.1 percent more than on August 1 last year (380 million Turkmen manat or $108.4 million).
Meanwhile, the deposits of the population in the banks of Turkmenistan express the savings culture of citizens. Many people prefer to place their savings in banks to ensure safe storage of funds and receive interest on deposits.
