Azerbaijan preparing survey on Digital Economy, Society Index

A survey on the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) is being prepared in Azerbaijan, Tofig Babayev, director of the Regional Information Technologies Academy (RITA), told Trend Oct. 30.

He said that the survey will be prepared according to over 30 approved indicators of statistical information, which characterizes the level of the country’s progress towards digital economy and society.

“The development of the document is coordinated by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of Azerbaijan,” Babayev said. “It is planned to complete the work in this direction by the end of December, and after that, the survey will be submitted to the European Commission.”

The DESI is composed of five principal policy areas, which include connectivity (fixed broadband, mobile broadband, broadband speed and prices), human capital (basic skills and Internet use, advanced skills and development), use of Internet (citizens’ use of content, communication and online transactions), integration of digital technology (business digitization and e-commerce), digital public services (e-government).
