The State Committee of Uzbekistan for Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre is ready for cooperation with the Russian company Yandex in compiling online maps of Uzbek cities for the Yandex.Taxi service and will provide full support, the Committee said on Oct. 1 referring to the negotiations of the Committee Deputy Chairman Sherzod Khabibullayev and regional director of the Yandex Uzbekistan Yevgeny Lukyanchikov.

Yandex officially entered the passenger transportation market of Uzbekistan in April 2018 and started working in Tashkent.

Uzbekistan is the ninth country in which the Yandex.Taxi service, an international service that allows quickly ordering a taxi without calling the dispatcher and following the order on the map, was launched.

Yandex.Taxi plans to expand to other cities of Uzbekistan. This process, however, is hampered by the lack of accurate and up-to-date online maps of the cities.

According to Anton Petrakov, director for work with state authorities in Yandex.Taxi, the company is now independently working on maps of major cities of the country. At the same time, according to Petrakov, Yandex would be extremely grateful to the authorities of Uzbekistan for assistance in this work. For example, digital registries of objects in the cities would be very useful for the company.
