Work under grant agreement between USTDA, Communications Ministry set up

Work under the grant agreement between the USTDA (United States Trade and Development Agency) and Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, has been set up. The Ministry told Trend that the specialists of Strategic Policy Research Inc have recently paid a fact-finding visit to Baku in this respect.

During the visit the specialists got familiar with the structure of the Ministry and its enterprises for the implementation of the further work under the agreement.

The USTDA and the Communications Ministry signed a $735,000 grant agreement in January 2005. The document was undersigned by Ali Abbasov, the Minister for Communications and Information Technologies, and Jason Highland, charge d’affaires of the US embassy in Baku.

The agreement, which is to end in July 2006, stipulate ,deliver of technical assistance in the strategic and organizational restructuring of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.

The agreement includes delivery of consultation services in connection with the transference of the technologies, restructuring and organization management, assistance for the improvement of personnel of the Communications Ministry in the sphere of advanced practice in the information and communications technologies sector, as well as aid to definition and outlining of the terms of establishment of new institutional relationships for improvement of national procedures in policy formation.

“Date of the next visit of the US specialists to Baku is still to be determined,” the same source said.
