Uzbekistan, Afghanistan to jointly attract funds for transport corridors dev’t in Central Asia

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan intend to jointly attract funds from international financial institutions for the development of transport corridors in Central Asia, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani on October 20 in Kabul discussed issues of new areas of bilateral partnership.

President of Afghanistan supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to establish cooperation with the US Financial Corporation for International Development, as well as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank to attract additional sources of financing to projects in the development of transport corridors.

An agreement was reached on the development of a road map for the development of cooperation in the political, trade and economic, financial, energy, transport, logistics and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

In addition, during the meeting, an agreement was signed between Afghanistan and the Asian Development Bank to finance the construction of power transmission line between Uzbekistan’s Surkhan and Afghanistan’s Puli – Khumri, providing for the allocation of $110 million.
