BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. This week it has been reported that the Azerbaijani ‘Rasul Rza’ feeder vessel transported cargo from Central Asia to Romania for the first time.

Thus, 24 TEU containers with mineral fertilizers from Uzbekistan were transported by rail to the Port of Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan), and later by 'Mahmud Rahimov' ship to the Port of Baku. From Baku, the containers were transshipped by rail to the Georgian Port of Batumi, then transferred to the 'Rasul Rza' feeder vessel, and delivered to the Romanian Port of Constanta.

Furthermore, it has become known that the TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers, International Road Transport) car park is being built at the Sadarak state border checkpoint on an area of 7.3 hectares, where 700 trucks can be located at the same time. It was also revealed that the park's commissioning would facilitate the management of vehicles, as well as increase the efficiency of border crossing.

Moreover, transit cargo traffic through Azerbaijan exceeded 47 percent from January through August 2022. The country is actively working on creating infrastructure that meets modern standards. Thus, the construction of railways, highways, airports and other transport infrastructure across Azerbaijan is currently underway. It's scheduled to start the second phase of the Baku port's construction.

In addition, it has been noted that the Zangazur corridor will create opportunities for additional transit of five eight million tons of cargo through Azerbaijan. In 2023, the construction of the Horadiz-Aghband highway and railways is expected to be completed.

The freight traffic through the Azerbaijani section of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) equals about 0.5 million tons per year, while in the future this figure is planned to reach four million tons.
