BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. The volume of non-oil exports through Iran’s Astara railway terminal in Gilan Province in the north of the country, increased by 9 percent, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to the preceding year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director General of Iran's Northern Railway Department Gholam Hossein Valadi told IRNA, Trend reports.

“A total of 199,000 tons of non-oil products were exported through Iran’s Astara railway terminal in the last Iranian year, while in the preceding year, the exports amounted to 182,000 tons,” he said.

Valadi added that various fruits, mainly citrus, cement, chemicals, salt, etc. were the main exported goods via Astara railway terminal for the last Iranian year.

The director generation also noted that about 152,000 tons of goods were imported through the Astara railway terminal within the last Iranian year, which is a decrease of 0.11 percent in volume compared to over 151,000 tons in the preceding year.

According to him, the main imported goods were wood and timber, cotton, paper, grain and so on.

“In addition, more than 220,000 tons of cargo were transited through the mentioned railway terminal in the last year. This is 897 percent more compared to 22,000 tons in the preceding year,” Valadi also pointed out.

Iran's Astara railway terminal is located near the border with Azerbaijan.
