BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. Iran has saw a 74-percent growth in monthly cargo transit through its roads and railroads in the 7th month of the current Iranian year (September 23 through October 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh said, Trend reports.
According to him, approximately 1.38 million tons of cargo were transited via Iran’s roads and railways during the reporting month.
The deputy minister also mentioned that about 414,000 tons of oil products were transited over roads and railways of the country in the seventh month, representing a 185-percent increase from the same period last year.
Afandizadeh added that about 822,000 tons of non-oil products were transited through the roads and railroads, which is an increase of 48.1 percent compared to the same month last year.
He also pointed out that approximately 1.24 million tons of cargo were transited via the country's roads and 142,000 tons via the railways.
During the 7 months of the current year, the total transit of goods through Iran (land, sea, air) amounted to 9.3 million tons, which is an increase of 15 percent compared to the same period last year.
Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.
The length of railway lines in Iran is currently 14,984 kilometers. At present, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
