BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 12. Cargo shipment by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan was 206.9 million tons from January through November 2023, representing a 4.9 percent increase year on year, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee.
The committee's data showed that 57.7 percent of all commodities were transported by road, 30.1 percent by pipeline, 8.1 percent by rail, four percent by sea, and 0.1 percent by air.
Meanwhile, the private-sector freight transportation increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year. This sector accounted for 77.9 percent of overall cargo transportation volume.
From January through November 2023, Azerbaijan's passenger transportation exceeded 1.7 billion persons, representing a 18.1 percent increase year-on-year.
The majority of passengers (88 percent) were transported by car, 11.4 percent by metro, and 0.6 percent by other modes of transportation.
