BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 23. "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ), Kazakhstan’s national railway operator, increased the volume of container cargo exports in 2022 by 30 percent year-on-year, Trend reports via KTZ.

According to the statistics, the share of container traffic transported by KTZ in the reporting period amounted to 4.4 percent, or 3.5 million tons, of the total cargo.

Thus, in 2022, over 49,000 TEU with grain products were sent for export by KTZ, which is 4.2 times more year-on-year. The cargo was sent to the China's Alashankou, Urumqi, Xian, Chongqing, as well as to the Turkish port of Mersin by the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

At the same time, as the railway operator noted, the capacity of container-usable export cargo is currently at about 22 million tons, or 28 percent of the total volume of exported cargo.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s national railway operator transported 40 million tons of cargo via its network from January through February 2023, around 25.3 million tons of which were shipped domestically, while 14.6 million tons were exported.
