Second-tier Kazakh banks issue loans to economy for $54B

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 2. Loans to the economy issued by second-tier banks of Kazakhstan increased by 1.9 percent to 24.9 trillion tenge (about $54.2 billion) in July 2023, Trend reports.

The data of Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for regulation and development of the financial market shows that loans to the economy have grown by 9 percent since the beginning of 2023.

Loans in the national currency increased by 2.2 percent to 23.2 trillion tenge (about $50.5 billion), loans in foreign currency decreased by 2.2 percent to 1.7 trillion tenge (about $3.7 billion), included as a result of currency revaluation against the backdrop of tenge strengthening by 1.4 percent against the US dollar.

As of August 1, 2023, the banking sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan is represented by 21 second-tier banks, of which 11 are banks with foreign participation, including 8 subsidiary banks.
