(gazeta.kz) Anatoly Dernovoi, Minister of Health of RK, last Saturday in Astana met a group of foreign experts and discussed development of the national healthcare system with them including measures for spotting of HIV cases in South Kazakhstan region, Ministry of Health reports.

John Ordway, US ambassador to Kazakhstan, and representatives of the CDC - Mihail Favorov, and the USAID - Kerry Pelzman participated.

The experts, who participated in the meeting believe that "in general the majority of the HIV cases among children have been revealed today. This number (78) includes the majority of children from the risk group, that is those who received blood transfusion or treatment in the city and regional clinics. So without ruling out a possibility of registering other cases of the infection we can speak about the reduction and spotting," - the meeting participants said.

Besides, reasons for lethal outcomes of eight HIV-infected children were addressed. The Ministry press service said that "it was confirmed that the children died of other associated grave diseases from which they had been suffering." Besides, it was stressed that those diseases had been a reason for the hospitalisation of those children.

The HIV infection has been revealed also in eight cases among mothers of the HIV-infected children. "The vertical transmission of the infection is being studied now by means of molecular epidemiology methods with the help of the CDC," - the Ministry said.

In order to reveal all HIV cases in South Kazakhstan region 48,949 were examined including 9,157 children under 5, who have been treated in the clinics since last October, 198 donors, 3,143 medical workers, as well as 25,506 pregnant women, reports Trend.
