Kyrgyzstan arrests Hizb ut-Tahrir activist

Secret Services in Kyrgyzstan announced the arrest of one activist of the banned group Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Officers of the State Security Service said the arrest was conducted within the framework of religious extremism counterwork. The detained is a resident of rough-hewn settlement Ak-Bosogo (novostroika) near Bishkek city,

reported.  

Born in Batken oblast, 38, he was seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate and spread extremist literature among local citizens.

Police found books, leaflets and CD-discs that were later announced to be of extremist content. The man was placed in detention.
