BISHEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 3. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expected to support the reconstruction of the Kar-Balta–Chaldybar road in Kyrgyzstan, which will provide access to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, Trend reports via the Kyrgyzstan Presidential Administration.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov in Samarkand, according to the Kyrgyz President’s Administration.
Odile Renaud-Basso emphasized that the EBRD remains one of the largest investors in Kyrgyzstan. She noted that since the start of their partnership, the total investment in the country has reached around $1 billion.
She also mentioned that last year, the funds allocated to the real sector of Kyrgyzstan's economy amounted to $52 million.
Currently, Kyrgyzstan is working on attracting investments for the reconstruction of the road connecting Kar-Balta to Chaldybar, which provides access to Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan plans to begin the project in the first quarter of 2026.
The Middle Corridor is a transport and trade route that passes through several countries in the region and connects Asia with Europe. It serves as an alternative to the traditional North and South Corridors.
The route starts in China and passes through Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then crosses the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey before reaching Europe. The Middle Corridor offers a land route that bypasses longer sea routes, connecting the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe.
