Turkmenistan and Qatar, which are energy rich countries and are amongst the world's major producers and exporters of natural gas, are going to develop a constructive partnership considering the existing solid economic potential, the report of Turkmen Foreign Ministry, revealed by the country's embassy in Azerbaijan, stated.
This was discussed at the meeting of the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov with the Qatar Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalid Bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the international 'Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2012' exhibition and the 17th International Scientific Conference 'The main development directions of oil and gas industry and international cooperation'.
The meeting was organised at the request of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
According to the counterparts, a strong impetus for the further development of bilateral relations was given during the official visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to Doha in 2010 and his meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
A solid package of documents signed as a result of the high level negotiations initiated the practical realisation of the potential of Turkmen-Qatar cooperation in the long term.
In this context, the parties confirmed mutual commitment of the two countries to further enhance bilateral dialogue and discussed the priorities of the Turkmen-Qatar partnership in areas of mutual interest.
