Turkmen farmers hope for rich potato harvest in current season

Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz region hopes to receive rich foreign variety potato crop this season, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

In particular, entrepreneur Dovran Esenov intends to receive over 8,000 tons of foreign variety of potatoes, grown on almost 600 hectares of land.

Esenov said the potato variety grown by him is characterized by high yield, acceptability to local climatic conditions, fast maturation period, resistance to most diseases.

Potato growing is considered to be a vital part of Turkmenistan's agricultural sector. The country's president has recently highlighted the need to increase production of fruit and vegetables

Previously, President of Turkemenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions to increase production of potato, vegetable and melon crops in the country's Akhal region.

For each climate zone of the country, farmers have determined the necessary time for planting potatoes. Under favorable conditions, it was planned to harvest from 14 up to 20 tons of root crops by the beginning of the current summer.

Generally, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits are the main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
