ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 15. Enterprises in the Balkan region located in the west of Turkmenistan produced about 511 tons of technical iodine from January through August this year, Trend reports.
Most of the technical iodine produced in the region is accounted for by public-sector enterprises.
The total volume of industrial products produced at state and private enterprises in the Balkan region from January to August of this year amounted to more than 13.6 billion Turkmen manats ($3.88 billion), which means an increase of 6.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In general, industrial enterprises in the Balkan region as a whole produced more than 760 tons of iodine last year, exceeding the plan by 2.3 percent.
Turkmenistan occupies one of the first places in the world in iodine production, which creates the appropriate prerequisites for the further development of the chemical industry with an export orientation.
With the increasing dynamics of the construction of industrial and social facilities in Turkmenistan, the industry is becoming one of the major sectors of the economy, which plays an important role in the implementation of import substitution programs and increasing the export potential of the state.
