JV GM Uzbekistan (formerly JSC UzDEUavto, Andijan region) increased car production by 6.4 percent in 2012 up to 235,518 compared to 2011, a source in government circles told Trend on Friday.

Last year, the enterprise reduced output of Nexia cars by 3 percent - up to 83,573, as well as Matiz cars - 4 percent, up to 55,443.

Manufacturing of Damas cars increased by 21.8 percent - up to 24,597.

The enterprise also increased manufacturing of Chevrolet Spark cars by 14 percent - up to 33,027, Chevrolet Lacetti - by 6.5 percent - up to 25,448, Chevrolet Captiva - by 2.7 times to 4,633. Manufacturing of Chevrolet Epica cars decreased by 1.8 times - up to 572 units.

As it was reported, in February 2012, GM Uzbekistan started manufacturing a new model car Chevrolet Malibu and in September - Chevrolet Cobalt. In 2012 the company produced 2,663 Malibu cars and 5,562 Cobalt cars.

JSC UzDaewooAuto was established in 1996 on a parity basis by the Government of Uzbekistan and South Korea's Daewoo Motor.

In 2005 Uzbekistan Daewoo bought shares in the joint venture. In 2007 Uzavtoprom and General Motors signed an agreement to establish a basis for the GM Uzbekistan plant with charter capital of $266.7 million. The American side owns 25 per cent of shares plus one share in the enterprise, with the possibility of increasing it to 40 per cent. Currently, 75 per cent of the shares belong to Uzavtoprom.

At present, JV GM Uzbekistan produces seven models of cars, three of which are manufactured through SKD technology ( Chevrolet - Captiva, Epica, Spark and Malibu). Other models are released within the full-scale production.

The company increased production by 2.1 per cent in 2011 to 221,445 cars compared to 2010.
