Uzbekistan to gradually implement mandatory labeling system for goods

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 2

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan will gradually introduce a system of mandatory labeling by means of identification of certain types of products by manufacturers and importers, Trend reports with reference to Norma information and legal portal.

The State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan has developed a draft presidential decree “on the introduction of a mandatory digital labeling system for certain types of goods”, the purpose of which is to further improve mechanisms for preventing illegal production and sale of contraband and counterfeit goods, ensuring the legal circulation of certain types of goods, as well as protecting consumer rights.

The list of goods subject to mandatory labeling by means of identification in 2020-2022 has been determined. In addition to tobacco and alcohol products, it included medicines and medical products, water and soft drinks, as well as household appliances.

It is established that the entry into circulation, circulation and withdrawal from turnover of products that violate the requirements for mandatory labeling of goods with identification means is considered a violation of the law and is a reason for the subsequent application of liability measures.

The State Tax Committee will be entitled to supply the list of goods subject to mandatory labeling with identification means and determine the timing of their introduction and conduct experiments on marking certain types of goods with identification means in order to analyze the feasibility of their introduction.
