TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 26. "Mitsubishi Corporation", a Japanese company, and "Intecsa Ingenieria Industrial", a Spanish company, will jointly construct two combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) in Uzbekistan with a total cost of $771.8 million, Trend reports.
The foreign companies signed the respective contracts with the Uzbekistan enterprises "Thermal Power Plants" and "Talimarjanskaya TPP", as reported by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
Construction of the power units commenced on July 24, 2023. Based on the agreements, the construction of two CCGTs with a combined capacity of 1,065 MW will be completed by the end of 2025.
The project aims to supply electricity to consumers in the Samarkand and Bukhara regions, as well as to seven pumping stations along the Karshinsky canal.
Upon project completion, it is expected to generate an additional 8.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The utilization of advanced technologies will lead to savings of 600 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce atmospheric emissions by 1,500 tons, while also creating 112 new job opportunities.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's natural gas exports to China reached a total value of $203.9 million during the first half of this year, making Uzbekistan the fifth-largest among the countries with the biggest volume of natural gas exports to China.
In total, Uzbekistan exported natural gas valued at $278.4 million to foreign nations during the same period. Impressively, over 73 percent of this gas was sent to China. The significant natural gas exports to China have played a crucial role in boosting Uzbekistan's overall earnings from this valuable natural resource.
