Number of marriages drops by 6 percent in Tehran

During the first half of 2010 (new year in Iran begins March 21) the number of marriages in Tehran declined by 6 percent, while divorces increased by 4 percent, MEHR news agency quotes chief of the Civilian Registry’s Office of the Iranian province of Tehran Ahmad Geshmi as reporting.

During the first half of 2010 (new year in Iran begins March 21) the number of marriages in Tehran declined by 6 percent, while divorces increased by 4 percent, MEHR news agency quotes chief of the Civilian Registry's Office of the Iranian province of Tehran Ahmad Geshmi as reporting.

Geshmi added that during this period Tehran registered 63,330 marriages, last year the figure was 68,059.

According to him, over the past six months Tehran registered 17,846 divorces, and last year - 17,100.
Geshmi said that during this period fertility in Tehran increased by 3 percent.
"In six months of this year 107, 268 infants were born in Tehran, approximately 56,000 of them are boys and 52,000 - girls," Geshmi said.

According to him, during the first six months the death rate increased by 7 percent (31,256 cases) in Tehran.
