With temperatures dropping below zero in 28 of its 31 provinces, Iran's natural gas use reached 551 million cubic meters yesterday, the highest figure during 30 years, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
Iran produces 554 mcm/d of natural gas.
The demand in Tehran totaled 110 million cubic meters of gas on Sunday.
So far, the freezing temperatures have not interrupted gas service domestically, Javad Oji, managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said. Iran's gas exports have not been affected by the increased demand either, he said.
