Iran is seeking the contribution of the German giant Siemens for modernizing and repairing a number of turbines at a power plant on its southern island of Sirri.
Hamid Reza Sajadi, the head of the Sirri Power Plant, said that a number of Siemens experts are expected to visit the oil-rich Sirri Island in the coming days to discuss modernizing a number of turbines of the plant, Fars news agency reported Feb. 15.
Speaking about the technical features of the Siemens SGT-400 industrial gas turbines, he underlined the need for the new turbines to go into service at the power plant on the Sirri Island.
Sajadi added that some of the rusty turbines at the power plant need to be decommissioned.
Sirri is an oil-rich island located 72 kilometers off the Iranian southern coastal line and 40 kilometers west of the Abu Musa Island in the Persian Gulf.
The oil fields around the island have a capacity for producing 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The oil fields of Alvand, Esfand, Sivand, as well as Dena are among the major fields operating around the island.
Iran's primary energy consumption reached 4.428 million barrels of oil equivalent per day during the last fiscal year that ended on March 20, 2015.
In the mentioned period, Iran's natural gas consumption rose by 12 percent year-to-year reaching 472 million cubic meters per day, of which 29 percent was consumed by power plants, 19 percent by industrial sector and 52 percent by housing sector (including non-major industrial sectors).
