Iran currently produces worth of $3 billion of various types of medicines, an Iranian official said.
The head of Iran Food and Drug Administration, Rasoul Dinarvand, has said that the country in the meantime imports worth of $1 billion of medicinal products per year, IRNA news agency reported.
Calling for the development of the country’s pharmaceutical industry, the official added that the country’s imports of drugs over the past three years have decreased by $500 million.
According to the official, the country’s exports of drugs about 15 years ago stood at $2 million.
Medical drugs (worth $723 million) ranked among Iran’s top ten imported goods in a nine-month period since March 20,2016.
