Presently, Iran produces more than 340,000 tons of rapeseed a year, Alireza Muhajir, manager of project of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry, said.
Moreover, 450,000 tons of rapeseed are expected to be produced next Iranian year (to start from March 21, 2019), Muhajir added, Trend reports referring to ISNA.
In 2015, 46,000 tons of rapeseed were produced, he said.
Iran is one of the key countries in import of press cake. That is why, production of vegetable oil in the country is important, Muhajir said.
It is necessary to strengthen the production of oil seeds, especially rapeseed, he said.
To encourage farmers to cultivate rapeseed, the government said that the price of the rapeseed will be higher than the price of wheat, Muhajir added.
A price of 27.3 rials (about $0.65) has been set for farmers cultivating rapeseed in Iran. The price of wheat is 16,000 rials (about $0.38).
