By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

This Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), cotton production in Iran is expected to reach at least 65,000 tons, CEO of the Iranian Cotton Fund Mohammad Hossein Kaviani said, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

There are plans to harvest 200-220,000 tons of untreated cotton from 90,000 hectares, Kaviani noted.

The CEO said that the increase in production is related to the favorable weather.

By Dec. 16, 94,000 tons of untreated cotton entered the factories, Kaviani noted, adding that about 67,000 tons of this volume were cleaned and 20,500 tons of cotton were produced.

The CEO said that considering 2,000 tons of cotton in warehouses, 15,600 tons of cotton were purchased by the cotton textile industry and more than 7,000 tons of cotton remained at the factories.

Iran will need 130,000-140,000 tons of cotton this year, Kaviani added. By producing 60,000 tons of cotton, Iran will meet 45-50 percent of its needs, said the CEO.

“During eight months of this year (March 21-Nov. 21), 55,000 tons of cotton were imported and import continues,” Kaviani noted.
