Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia David Usupashvili spent the first meetings within the framework of his official visit to the Czech Republic. On the first day of the visit, Usupashvili and other members of the Georgian delegation met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Miroslava Nemcova and Senate President Milan Štěch, the Parliament of Georgia told Trend.
Usupashvili and Milan Štěch held a joint press conference after the meeting.
During the visit, the speaker of Georgian Parliament met with First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg, visited the mayor's office of Prague, and then made comments.
"Our Czech colleagues remain friends of Georgia. The change of power does not mean anything for them, because this change gave new energy to our relations both in the international arena, including in relation to the EU and NATO and bilateral relations, no problems in this area is expected. We received assurances from the chairmen of both chambers of the Parliament and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, that Georgia will have the support of the Czech Republic at the Vilnius summit taking place at the end of the year," Usupashvili said.
The Chairman of the Parliament also noted that during the NATO summit in 2014 Czech Republic will continue to be among those countries that want to see Georgia as a member of the Euro-Atlantic structures. According to him, the prospects of the bilateral parliamentary relations were discussed at the meetings.
"We have set out concrete plans. Next week, our delegations will discuss several important issues at the Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg," Usupashvili said.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation also includes Irakli Chikovani, Ivan Kighuradze and David Darchiashvili.
The visit ends on April 18.
