Georgia hopes that the Vilnius summit will be historic, Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said in Batumi after a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule today.

The Prime Minister and European Commissioner are taking part in the international conference "Eastern European partners of the EU - to the Vilnius summit of the "Eastern Partnership".

Ivanishvili said that the European perspective of EU partner countries will be determined at the Vilnius summit.

"An association agreement will be signed in regards to Georgia," he said.

The Georgian Prime Minister stressed Stefan Fule's special role in the democratization of the region.

"The Georgian government sets the rule of law, freedom of the court and the media and the strengthening and assurance of efficiency and transparency in governance as an objective," he said. "Everything is based on respect for human rights."

Ivanishvili discussed the presidential elections scheduled for October 27 and expressed confidence that these will be the most democratic, free and competitive elections in Georgia.

"We will clearly show the world that the new government is moving towards building democracy and ensuring freedom," Ivanishvili added.
