Foreign ministers from the Friends of Syria group of countries will meet at the weekend in Qatar to discuss support for the rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad, the State Department said Wednesday, dpa reported.
The meeting of 11 foreign ministers - from the United States, European countries and regional allies - will coincide with an official visit to Qatar by French President Francois Hollande.
The foreign ministers will discuss support for the Syrian opposition and efforts to find a political solution to the conflict, spokeswoman State Department Jen Psaki said in a statement.
French media reported that the group, which does not include Russia or China, would consider requests by the rebels for weapons to fight al-Assad's regime.
Diplomatic sources in Paris told dpa the talks would cover "all" aspects of the conflict.
