The Alliance for Food Security has been established in Azerbaijan, representative of the Alliance Nizami Garayev told media at an event held in connection with the Day of Food Safety in Baku today.
He said that the main objectives of an alliance is to contribute to the comprehensive development of agriculture and the state program implementation to provide the Azerbaijani population with food in 2008-2015 through coordinating the activity and cooperation between the state, private sectors and non-governmental organizations.
The Alliance will work in such areas as training of small entrepreneurs, providing farmers with modern seed equipment, farmers' access to financial resources, etc.
"Azerbaijan has a great potential for the development of agriculture, which has not been fully used today," he said. "It is necessary to operate in various spheres to develop this sector. The alliance is interested in developing the cooperation among state, private and non-state organizations operating in this area."
Director of the international humanitarian organization Oxfam in Azerbaijan Shovket Alizade said that Oxfam supports the establishment of the alliance, as the support of small business in the agricultural sector affects the safety of food in the country and is one of Oxfam's goals in Azerbaijan.
