By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:

Iran has held funeral ceremonies for seven Pakistani nationals killed in Syrian crisis.

The slain fighters will be buried later today in Iranian city of Qom, IRNA news agency reported December 7.

Following the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Iran set up Zeinabioun brigade comprising Pakistani shia nationals, and the Fatemioun brigade of Afghan Shia fighters to support President Bashar al-Assad's government against armed opposition groups.

The allies and opponents of President Bashar are planning to resume peace talk later this month in New York to discuss al-Assad's fate.

So far two rounds of talks aimed at putting an end to the crisis were held in October and November in Vienna.

During the latest round of the Syrian peace talks held in November, the allies and opponents of President Bashar al-Assad agreed on a political process leading to elections in Syria.

While several Western and regional governments urge al-Assad to step down, Tehran and Moscow express support for him terming his government as "legitimate".

Iran denies that it has deployed soldiers to fight in Syria, and says it only provides the Syrian army with military advisers. However in early November Tehran officially confirmed that its death toll in Syria had increased.
