President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday said that the way is paved now for further expansion of bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey, IRNA reported.
President Rouhani made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Teyyip Erdogan on Tuesday.
He congratulated the Turkish president as well as the people and government of Turkey on the occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr (The feast of fast breaking) whicjh marks the beginning of the new lunar month of Shaval.
Muslims celebrate the occassion in the Islamic world.
Iran and Turkey should join hands to solve problems of the region, especially the issue of terrorism, as the two capitals enjoy many common points, President Rouhani stressed.
Stressing the need to expedite the previously reached agreements, he said that would be an important step taken for expansion of bilateral relations.
Referring to the fatal terrorist attakcs at Istanbul's international airport which claimed many lives and injured more others, President Rouhani said: “We need closer cooperation between the two countries to fight terrorism and I have no doubt that if the two countries launch more serious moves against the sinister phenomenon, we will be able to uproot terrorism in the region.”
on June 28 deadly terrorist attacvk against Ataturk International Airport, 45 people were killed, in addition to three attackers, and 239 people were injured.
President Rouhani described terrorism as a problem and threat against entire world and added, the fight against the global phenomenon would be possible through a collective endeavor of all countries.
Meanwhile, Erdogan hailed Iranian government and nation sympathy with the Turkish government and people on recent terrorist attacks.
He also congratulated President Rouhani on Eid-al-Fitr atressing that Ankara supports expansion of cooperation with Tehran.
Referring to the fight against terrorism, He said what goes on in Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Palestine is not tolerable.
Terrorism can be removed through cooperation, President Erdogan said adding that promotion of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Turkey was a must to this end.
