Iran's population grew by 536,368 people in the first half of the current year.

The country's population growth rate is about 1.3 percent, so that some one million people are added to the country's population each year, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on September 24.

Iran is the 18th most populated country in the world.

In April, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei outlined the general policies on Iran's population.

Khamenei said that the general policies on population were announced in view of the importance of the size of the population, which helps promote national might, and in order to make up for the country's declining population growth rate and birthrate.

Increasing the birthrate, facilitating the process of getting married, promoting the culture of having more children, promoting the culture of marrying at a young age, and offering financial support to young married couples, were some of the main policies.
