Twenty seven people were aboard the Kazakh border service's plane that crashed near Shymkent, including the acting head of the service, Turganbek Stambekov, the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan said.

December 25 at 6:55 pm, an aircraft of the National Security Committee's Border Service flying from Astana crashed 20 kilometers from Shymkent Airport when approaching to the airfield.

"On board the AN-72 aircraft were seven crew members, 20 servicemen, including acting Director of NSC BS Colonel Stambekov," National Security Committee said in a statement posted on its official website.

According to preliminary data, all the people on board were killed. Rescue services are working on the site of the plane's wreckage.

The investigation of the incident has been started.
