Over thousand people died in road accidents in Kazakhstan since early 2013

Some 8,462 road accident, resulting in the death of 1,167 people and injuries of 10,837 people were recorded during the six months of 2013, Committee of Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.

"In comparison with the same period of the last year the number of road accidents raised by 49 percent, and the number of the killed and injured in these accidents rose by five and 59 percent respectively," the Committee's report released on Monday said.

According to the report some 78 percent or 6,628 road accidents were recorded in the populated areas of the country. Each seventh road accident happened on the roads of republican and international importance. Some 642 road accidents were recorded on the roads of local importance.

"Driver's low discipline still remains as the cause of the most of road accidents. Thus, some 21.6 percent of all road accidents happened due to excessive speed (1,825), 9.3 percent of road accidents happened because of the violation of passage of pedestrian crossing (789) and some 8.3 percent - because of entering oncoming lane (705)," the report said.

Some 249 road accidents involving the death of 50 people and injuries of 385 happened because of the fault of drivers who were in the state of intoxication.

"There also some cases when road some accidents, specifically 256 road accidents happened because of the fault of bus drivers. The greater part of these accidents (76.5 percent) happened due to the guilt of the drivers of regular buses," the report said.

Meanwhile, some 770 road accidents happened because of the fault of pedestrians.
