Turkmen Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with the Afghan Commerce and Industries Minister Mohammad Shaker Kargar, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, according to a message from the Turkmen government.

During the talks the parties discussed prospects of bilateral relations in the fuel and energy, transport and communications sectors, according to the message.

The Turkmen government said the Afghan delegation expressed its gratitude for the assistance provided by Turkmenistan in rebuilding of Afghanistan.

The meeting also underscored the great importance of Turkmenistan's international initiatives for involving Afghanistan in major economic projects on the regional scale.

The realization of the project on construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline can contribute to the reconstruction of Afghanistan, since it will create jobs and provide the country with guaranteed income for gas transit.

Earlier, Ashgabat expressed hope that the implementation of the TAPI project could begin next year.

Previously, it was reported that Ashgabat and Kabul are studying the possibility of creating the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia transit-transport corridor.
