Georgia has no plans to place NATO missile defence system on its territory and this is not considered, Zurab Abashidze, Georgian Prime Minister's Special Representative for Relations with Russia said.

He made the remarks while commenting on the statement of Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich about that Georgia seeks to place the U.S. or NATO infrastructure in its territory.

"Moscow is likely to be well informed about this," Abashidze stressed.

Lukashevich earlier stated that Moscow is worried about the calls of Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania to place NATO missile defence system in the country.

During the meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission, the Georgian side put forward an initiative calling on to place air defense systems in Georgia.

"We announced this initiative, but no discussions were held on it. Our message is: in terms of regional security, we need not only political support but also practical military deterrence elements," Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili said.
