Azerbaijan will reduce the time spent for verification of goods at the customs clearance from 3 to 2 days after reception of a declaration by customs authority, and submission of documents and goods, according to the draft law "On Amendments to the Customs Code".

The draft law was submitted to Azerbaijan's parliament, the Milli Majlis for consideration.

The verification of goods during the customs clearance is carried out to check the compliance of information indicated in the customs declaration and other documents, as well as the name, origin, quantity and value of the goods.

Under the draft law, another change will affect the timing of withdrawal and storage of documents by customs officers.

The draft law said the customs officials have the right to withdraw and keep documents and information for up to two days in accordance with the code and other legislative acts.

Aside from that, an article will be withdrawn from the Customs Code.

The matter rests in the article, which states that in case if a customs authority has reasonable grounds to believe that the carrier or his/her vehicle don't meet the code's requirements, the transportation of goods can be carried out under customs accompaniment, after bringing the vehicle to a good condition.
