Iran, Tehran, Dec. 23/ Trend , A Namdari/ On Dec. 23, the Irani President decreed to implement changes made to the draft sharia punishments approved by the parliament and supreme religious council on May 22, 1996.
Changes were made to punishment measures taken against persons producing, using and selling or aiding sale of alcoholic drinks.
According to changes to the article 702 of the draft sharia punishments, persons producing, using and selling or aiding sale of alcoholic drinks will be sentenced from six months to six years in jail, 74 whip strikes, and fine worth five times more than the cost of alcoholic drinks.
According to the law, if volume of alcoholic drinks exceeds 20 litres, vehicles transporting it will be confiscated by the government. In case, the owner of the vehicle does not know about alcoholic drinks in his vehicle, the cost of the vehicle will be paid by the owner of the drinks to the government.
The new draft law says if civil servants, officials, members of the councils, organizations and funds are charged with using alcoholic drinks, besides the above-mentioned punishments, they will be deprived of opportunity to take office in the governmental agencies from one to five years.
Laws in the Islamic Republic of Iran are adopted in accordance with Islamic rules as it is a religious state.
