In the first quarter of 2006 the foreign trade turnover with 114 countries comprised $1943.3m.

The volume of export grew 116.43% as compared to last year and comprised $1037.8m, while import dropped 19.92% and comprised $905.5m.

Cut in import in January was linked with delivery of small volume of equipment, technical appliances, goods made of and natural gas. In this period foreign trade ended with a balance at $132.3m in black.

In January to March the assistance rendered by the government and international organizations to Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan without interests through state and governmental lines, as well as international organizations comprised 4129.9 tons with the value of $10123,000. Export of goods from the country in the regime of temporary export made up $12.8, while import reached $68.4m.

Export of oil products, ferrous metal, cattle and vegetable oil fell in the first quarter of 2006. Export of crude rose more than 2 times. Export of tobacco and tobacco products rose 3 times, which is explained with the development of this type of production in Azerbaijan.

In this period the highest amount of export fell on Italy with the total amount of good worth $445.6m, which comprises 42.94% of the all export. It is followed by Israel ($95.4m) and Romania ($79.4).

The share of public sector in export operations made up $926.6m (89.29%), private sector held $104.96 (10.11%). The share of export operations by physical entities comprised $6207,100 (0.6%).

Drop in import was caused by sharp cut in cars and equipment, as well as consumer goods, ferrous metal wares of it, and furniture. The same time the import of foodstuff and medicine grew.

The highest volume of import fell on 3 countries: Russia ($229.46m), UK ($77.2) and Germany ($62.26).

The share of public sector in import operations made up $29.61m (29.61%), while private sector held $575,800 (63.59%). The share of export operations by physical entities comprised $61576,000 (6.8%).
