Azerbaijan Obligations to Be Discussed at Meeting of PACE Monitoring Committee

MP Gultakin Hajiyeva, a member of the Azerbaijan delegation to PACE, exclusively informed Trend that a meeting of the Monitoring Committee is expected to be held within the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. During the forthcoming meeting, Azerbaijan obligations to the Council of Europe will be discussed.

The winter session of PACE will be held in Strasburg in January, 2007.

According to Ms. Hajiyeva, during the meeting of the Monitoring Committee, the PACE Co-Rapporteurs for Azerbaijan Tony Lloyd and Andreas Herkel are expected to make a report.

During the meeting, discussions on the project on explanation to making additions to the resolution will be held. According to the procedure rules, the issues discussed during the PACE sittings are first of al viewed in the corresponding committees. As soon as the Committee approves it, the issue is introduced to the agenda of the Bureau, as well as introduced to the delegates discussing it, she said.

Ms. Hajiyeva said that works on the report prepared by the OSCE Co-Rapporteurs were being carried out, and the document existed in the first reading.

The report was heard during the sitting of the Monitoring Committee held in December. The Azerbaijan delegation is continuing cooperation with the Co-Rapporteurs, she said.

Azerbaijan obligation to the Organization is expected to be discussed during the spring session of PACE to be held in April, 2007.
