Azerbaijani Opposition to Develop Joint Conception on Election Strategy

Huseynli / The chairman of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP), Ayaz Rustamov, stated on 21 May that he had begun talks with the chairmen of several parties including the Musavat party, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, and the Azerbaijani Democratic Party on cooperation on the eve of presidential elections, as well as joint control at the election centres.
Rustamov noted that in case of agreement a joint conception on election strategy of the opposition parties will be developed. According to the chairman, if joint cooperation is achieved the ANIP will nominate its candidate for the elections.
The ANIP founded in 1992 is the first officially registered in Azerbaijan party. Etibar Mammadov, the founder of the party, was the chairman till the end of 2004. For the time being Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Society.
