Azercell Provides Callers’ Anonymity in Line with Legislation: Press secretary of Company

Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 February / corr. Trend S. Ilhamgizi/ The mobile operator of Azerbaijan Azercell Telecom provide information required by Uzeyir Jafarov only through court. Rufat Abbasov, the press secretary of the Company said to Trend .

Uzeyir Jafarov, the former employee of the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan and journalist, held a press conference on 26 February and said that on 28, 29 and 30 January he had received unknown call threatening him. He appealed the Policy Office #5 of the Binagadi district of Baku about the unknown calls. The Police Office sent a letter to Azercell on the basis of Jafarov's statements, who is the subscriber of the Company.

However, the official letter of Azercell sent to the Police Office said that the company can not give the required numbers as it contradicts security and anonymity of the citizens. The mobile operator attributed its decision to the fact that it contradicts 32th article of Constitution, 38th article of Law on Telecommunication and 16, 243, 259th articles of the Penal Code of Azerbaijan.

"We, as the biggest company in the country provide best quality communication services to over 3mln subscribers. We keep confidential the information about our callers in line with the Azerbaijani legislation," Abbasov said.

According to Abbasov, the Company can provide the required the information only after the court decision.

According to Azerbaijani legislation and terms of the GSM-deals, the information about the subscriber is confidential and can not be obtained by the third party excluding the cases indicated in the Legislation.
