Azerbaijan to Maintain Policy on Prevention of Religious Discrimination: Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 November / Trend corr. J.Babayeva/ Azerbaijan will keep adhering to the policy on prevention of religious discrimination in the country.

One of the of priorities of the Azerbaijani Government is the activity intended to prevent the religious discrimination and to provide religious freedom of the citizens, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said 5 November at the conference Islamophobia and Other Forms of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief: Consequences for Young People and Youth Work Responses, which is taking place in Baku from 4 to 8 November.

There is no privileged religion or belief in Azerbaijan, therefore, there is no phobia, he said.

"All citizens in Azerbaijan have an opportunity to freely practice their religion. Equal conditions have been provided in the country for all representatives of all nations and beliefs," he said.

Representatives of about 80 religions and nations live in Azerbaijan and they take an active part in the public life.

The Conference was organized by the Council of Europe, European Youth Forum, ISESCO, the OIC Youth Forum and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan. A total of 120 representatives of 43 countries are in attendance.
